FALMOUTH, ME, January 11, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Amamihe S.A. Onwuachumba has been included in Marquis Who's Who. An expert in the field of engineering, Dr. Onwuachumba is a power systems engineer with RLC Engineering, having previously been a research assistant with the company from 2013 to 2016, starting as an electrical engineering intern in 2013. In this role, he works with transformers, electrical generators, electric motors, and power electronics for the generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization of electricity. Driven by his love of engineering, he notably proposed algorithms for the identification of critical locations of power systems and reduced model state estimation. The highlight of his career thus far has been conducting studies for the Maine Power Reliability Program, which aims to improve and modernize the power systems infrastructure from the town of Eliot on the New Hampshire border to Orrington.
Dr. Onwuachumba developed an interest in electrical engineering at an early age, having always been interested in how things work and having been fascinated by electricity, even building battery-powered toys from broken parts of toys he found. He was involved with the Junior Engineers, Technicians, and Scientists (JETS) Club at the Federal Government Academy (Centre for the Gifted and Talented) in Suleja, Nigeria. He then traveled to Russia to study at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute, obtaining a BS and an MS in electrical and electronic engineering in 2010. He went on to study in the United States at the University of Maine, earning a second MS as well as a PhD in electrical and computer engineering in 2016.
As a student, Dr. Onwuachumba was general vice chairman and chairman of the International Students Union for the Moscow Power Engineering Institute, and a student member of the IEEE. He was also a senator of the electrical and computer engineering department for the Graduate Student Government at the University of Maine. As a professional, he has been affiliated with numerous organizations as well. He is a member of the National Society of Engineers, the IEEE, and the Golden Key International Honour Society. Previously, he was the secretary-general of the Association of Nigerian Scholarship Students in Russia, the founder of the chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers at the University of Maine, Orono and vice chair of the Maine chapter of the IEEE Power and Energy Society and Industry Applications Society.
In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Onwuachumba was a recipient of a Dean of Graduate School Fellowship at the University of Maine, a Russia Outstanding Leadership Award from the Office of the Vice-Rector on International Relations by the Moscow Power Engineering Institute, and an Ascent of Excellence Merit Award from the Federal Government Academy and The Gifted Children's College. As he looks to the future, Dr. Onwuachumba plans to continue growing, learning and, crafting his expertise in his field. He strives to become a leader in engineering and will do so with his hard work, tenacity and dedication.
