Americans Against Fraudulent Self-help - launches National "Guru-Free" week! April 1 - 8, 2008!
EXCLUSIVE - Does self-help really work? Can gurus be trusted? Are Americans addicted to authority figures? Who is protecting us from quackery in the self-help, industrial complex? Up until now there has been no place for the consumer of self-help to go.

/24-7PressRelease/ - ASHEVILLE, NC, March 05, 2008 - AAFS http://www.selfhelpfraud.org works to protect the public against false, deceptive, inaccurate, fraudulent or unproven practices in the self-help field through information, education & research. AAFS focuses on ethical practices & professional standards & does not conduct investigations or report people who violate the law

AAFS purports that the Self-Help Movement has become the Self-Destruct Movement by diminishing or destroying American's ability to think and evolve on their own. Many Americans have given up the freedom to build healthy marriages and families based on their unique history, values and life experience. Instead many search outside themselves for someone to tell them how to be happy, what they should value and how they should act.

Being a "happier person" or having a "healthier family" are often the goals of consumers of Self-Help products. Yet studies continue to show that to be happy and healthy is based on simple common sense but which is not necessarily easy to do. Many Americans do not want to do the hard work necessary to change, so they keep spending money searching for a quick and simple way offered by the latest guru.

No Return-On-Investment! -- Millions of Americans spend billions of dollars annually (expected to be $11 billion in 2008) investing in Self-Help to hear what this season's guru thinks we should do to be happy and healthy.

AAFS advocates the solution: A Return to our (Common) Senses! -- The best way out of this learned "self-helplessness" is to go cold turkey. Go "GURU-FREE" from April 1 - 8 by NOT watching Self-Help shows and by quit reading any more Self-Help books, at least until you have applied what you read in the last one.

Begin, instead, to reclaim your natural ability to think for yourself. The common sense that was once readily available to all Americans is still there, free of charge, and waiting to be applied to just about any challenge you might face in life -- all you have to do is use it.
