Aminatou Haidar Staged PR Stunt Sabotages Western Sahara Peace Efforts

DALLAS, TX, December 22, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Moroccan Recipes, a portal dedicated to Moroccan cuisine and culinary traditions of the North African country, has found itself in the midst of a political turmoil.

It all started when Aminatou Haidar staged a PR stunt to sabotage the UN backed conflict resolution process. Aminatou Haidar is a pro-Polisario separatist group who enjoyed the Soviet Union and communist Algeria's support during the cold war. In November 2009, Aminatou Haidar, using a Moroccan passport, entered the country using "Western Sahara" (part of Morocco) as a country of destination and explicitly renouncing to her Moroccan citizenship. Moroccan port authorities, applying existing laws and procedures, deported her to the country of departure.

Karim Ould Chikh, a student from Dallas and owner of Moroccan Recipes, did not realize that he will be engulfed in any controversy when he added "I support Morocco" on his popular site. To my amazement 2 days after posting few comments on Facebook I received death threats and cyber attacks on my site. "Being from Tan Tan (a city in the Western Sahara), I have experienced the Polisario's Atrocities first hand my older brother was assassinated by a Polisario commando and my second cousin was Kidnapped and still detained in Tindouf camp."

Aminatou Haidar's well orchestrated online PR campaign, and the threats of the pro-Polisario camp has done nothing but fuel the founder's desire to introduce not only Morocco's culinary traditions, but also its ethnic diversity and cultural tolerance.

Moroccan Recipes has decided to donate $5,000.00 to the families of the Kidnapped in Tindouf. "I am personally committed to, with other fellow Moroccans in social media sites like Facebook and through other site, to show the truth behind Aminatou Haidar's latest propaganda campaign and to promote peace in the region. This is in line with the spirit in which I launched Moroccan-recipes.com," says Karim Ould Chikh.
