Dr. Beyer-Mears has contributed numerous articles to professional journals, particularly in the area of diabetic lens and kidney therapy.

    MADISON, WI, February 15, 2018 -- Annette Beyer-Mears, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. With more than 50 years of professional experience in the field of medicine, Dr. Beyer-Mears retired as an associate professor of ophthalmology and physiology with the University of Medicine and Dentistry at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, having held these positions from 1986 to 2014. Prior to obtaining these roles, she served as an assistant professor from 1979 to 1985, having served in a fellowship at the school with the National Institutes of Health and as a teaching assistant in physiology from 1974 to 1977. Earlier in her career, she was an instructor with the Springside School (now Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) from 1967 to 1971, and a fellow of the National Institutes of Health with Weill Cornell Medicine from 1963 to 1965. In addition, she has served as a consultant with Alcon Laboratories (now Novartis AG), and as a visiting professor with the University of Wisconsin.

Inspired to pursue a career in medicine by her father, a renowned pharmacology researcher, Dr. Beyer-Mears began her career by obtaining a BA from Vassar College in 1963. She went on to complete an MS in 1973 with Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1973, and a PhD with the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1977. She is a member of the American Physiological Society, the Association for Physiological Science, the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the Royal Society of Medicine, the American Diabetes Association, the International Diabetes Federation, and the International Society for Eye Research.

A respected voice in the medical community, Dr. Beyer-Mears has contributed numerous articles to professional journals, particularly in the area of diabetic lens and kidney therapy. In recognition of her contributions to the field of physiology, she received the National Institutes of Health National Research Service Award from 1978 to 1980, also receiving the Foundation CMDNJ Research Award in 1980. She has received grants from the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, National Institutes of Health, and Pfizer, Inc. Throughout her career, she has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World.

Outside of her academic appointments, Dr. Beyer-Mears is a proud member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. Her family is credited with buying the 1908 Eugene A. Gilmore House, also known as "Airplane House," from the original owners in 1930, and she has worked to restore the Gilmore House since 1991. For her efforts, Dr. Beyer-Mears was honored with the Wright Spirit Award from the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy in 2007.
