To make searching easy, DocuGrab has an auto-complete drop down list, similar to online services, preventing a search for a non-existent word. Search results are displayed in a list with exact matches listed first, followed by best match. When an item in the list is clicked or hovered over, DocuGrab's internal document viewer scrolls and highlights the match. Press Find Next to highlight the next match. Double click to edit the document with external software. Limit the search scope by file name, type or date. View-by-date and view-by-folder tabs also provide an easy way to search and browse documents.
DocuGrab uses a very fast hard drive scan to build its word dictionary; the scan usually takes less than a minute and needs to be run only once, because the results are saved in a fast virtual database. DocuGrab indexes and searches up to 45 million words in an unlimited number of documents. Because it's so fast, the search dictionary is built at user discretion without any system-slowing services running in the background.
The Scan Control tab lists the folders, file types, sizes and dates to be included in the dictionary. DocuGrab scans the My Documents folder by default, but any folder or drive, including networked and removable drives can be added to the dictionary. DocuGrab has an internal engine that decodes Portable Document Files (.PDF), Microsoft Word Documents (.Doc, .Docx) and Text (.txt) files.
