From the time most girls are born, they are told that the most important day in their lives is their wedding day. Nobody knows that better than Grace McPherson. She's been there, done that and bought the gown, far too many times. For some reason the fates just don't seem to want Grace to make it down the aisle. Will her sixth attempt be the one? Will she make it to her happily ever after or will a gun in someone's purse ruin her plans?
Sica Leroux, who plays the star-crossed bride, is in the midst of planning her own wedding later this summer. Unlike her character's nuptially-obsessed mother, who has dreamed of her daughter's wedding day since she was born, Sica is not planning an extravagant event.
"We're going minimal all the way with our nuptials," said Leroux who only recently arrived in Vancouver from Ottawa. "Our goal is to have all the basics for a wedding, and a few luxuries, but still have the cheapest wedding possible. So many people -- like my character's mom -- feel the need to spend a ridiculous amount of money on wseddings. I personally think our society's lavish weddings are like our concept of fuel usage: we don't need as much as we are made to believe we are!"
Raving Theatre generally focuses on works by and/or about gay men and lesbians. While there is no looming gay theme in this comedy, the bride's two best friends are gay and provide the star-crossed bride with comic relief and emotional support.
The cast of Six Grooms... includes several actors from Raving Theatre's last production, Some Men: Larry Colcy, Dana MacInnis, Jason Flood and Jeremy Leroux.
