FREE outdoor Art show features 75 artists from across Ontario and is open in Toronto for 4 days only. What a great way to spend the last summer weekend.
This year's juried show has a great variety of artistic styles, media and approaches to visual art: Large abstracts suitable for major focal points in urban home decor; smaller pieces for nooks and fill-in spots; art styles for the kitchen, cottage, bedroom and more; and sculptures for the garden or home. We also have fine crafts in jewellery, glass, wood turnings and pottery. Be sure to stop by the gourmet food for sampling from Edna's Pickles, Pepper Brew, Sprucewood Handmade Cookies, and Cooks Gourmet oils and tapinades.
Held in the distinctive cobble stoned 19th century Distillery Historic District, Artfest Toronto show has become one of Toronto's favorite summer Art Shows. Not too big and with great options for fine dining. This is an intimate event that inspires personal interaction with the artists.
Music is performed throughout the weekend by the talented Hazel and David Wipper from Melody Fair. David Wipper is a guitar virtuoso and has played with a host of music stars- Alannah Myles, Rita Coolidge, Amanda Marshall and more....
The producer of Artfest Toronto is Lory MacDonald, an artist with 25 years of experience spotting trends and finding new talent. In her words
" As the speed of life increases, and many of us spend more time working and entertaining in our homes, our interior spaces benefit from surrounding ourselves with original, uplifting and colourful art. Artists are responding by exploring new media combinations, using recycled products in their art, and playing with both current and nostalgic imagery. Please come down to the show and reconnect, walk the cobble stone lanes, listen to live music and savor the visual delights."
New this year is the Artfest Kids Tent with free art workshops all weekend long. Plus, guest mural artist Arthur II who will be creating a Participaint mural~ where you can join in and create! No experience necessary and a great opportunity to try some mural painting.
Artist Garnet & Ashes, has a gift for capturing nostalgic imagery in her stunning mixed media pieces. Her pieces sparkle with attitude and distant memories!
Sculptural pieces of 3-D relief wall art Carlo Allion's Art. Talk about imagination! This artist has a mind that never stops and is powerfully creative. Using a unique technique that involves sculpting for a textured relief, he forms delightful imaginary creatures that are both historical and futuristic at the same time. His paintings reminiscent of authors who have the skilled ability to engage both children and adults: like Dr. Suess or JK Rowling. His latest pieces are a playful horses on wheels, magical flying machines, and long legged thoughtful elephants.
Christopher Mazure: Haunting soft atmospheric landscape paintings that calm the soul and inspire thought. These elements work together in each piece and can transform a room and provide an escape from busy life. Rich layers of paint and subtle texture form Chris's work. He explores and interprets the beauty of the Canadian landscape. That is his special artistic gift.
Lory MacDonald is not only the Artfest Toronto show producer; she is an artist as well. Her painting style is inspired by elements from nature, and then transformed into colourful, kinetic, mixed media abstract art. Rich colours and playful imagery is her style, and resembles a combination of batik, stained glass and ceramics. See her work at booth D32 at the Distillery.
Special Guest Designer Linda Lundstrom is joining Artfest for the first time. With the heart and soul of an artist, Linda Lundström has been a creative tour de force in Canada for over 3 decades. Having produced more than 100 collections, Lundström is more than a fashion designer. Linda inspires everyone she meets- she has that unique ability. Her new collections of lace and linen are being featured at Artfest Toronto this Labour Day weekend. Booth A8 on Trinity Street at the Distillery.
Photographers: Artfest is proud to have several renowned photographic artists exhibiting this year. In a tradition started by award winning photographer Don Nausbaum (1954-2010) who was also the founder of Artfest at the Distillery, Artfest has a strong focus on photographic excellence. This year we are presenting photographers Shirley Brigden, Michael Hyman, Bob Gallagher, Patrick Klauss, Elle Shay, and Kristensen Smith. Please see the Artfest Blog and exhibitors list to see more.
Artfest Ontario hosts four outdoor juried art and craft festivals yearly in Canada. We provide free arts programming for families: children's art workshops, live mural painting and live music. Artfest Ontario celebrates, promotes and supports Canadian artists.
