FAYETTEVILLE, NY, December 12, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Arthur Lemos has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A retired music educator with a passion for composition, Mr. Lemos intends to continue composing music for many years to come. He pulls inspiration from his accomplished career as a performer, a teacher in the public school system, and a member of numerous music organizations. Born in Mount Vernon, N.Y. in 1932, Mr. Lemos earned a Bachelor of Science from New York University and became a certified music teacher through the New Jersey Education Department in 1953. The same year, he accepted a music teacher position with Paterson Public Schools in Paterson, N.J. He worked while attending Montclair State University, from which he graduated with a Master of Arts in 1956. He also became a certified elementary school principal and certified music teacher through the New York State Education Department.

After his graduation from Montclair State, Mr. Lemos returned to New York to teach music for New Hyde Park Public Schools. He also taught for Brentwood Public Schools and Scarsdale Public Schools before spending the remainder of his academic career with Lakeland Public Schools, where he worked from 1969 until his retirement in 1992. Two years later, Berkeley College established the Arthur Lemos Scholarship Award in his honor.

Mr. Lemos had always been enthusiastic about music. At a young age in his hometown, he played tuba in the Mount Vernon Symphony and was a member of the Mount Vernon Municipal Band. He later became a member of the Herricks Community Band, the Lynbrook Symphony, the Northern Westchester Symphony, the Mamaroneck Community Band, the Westchester Seasonal Pops Band, and the Pleasantville Fire Department Band, among other performing groups. Most recently, he has performed with the Tuba Christmas Band in Fayetteville, N.Y. and the Baldwinsville Community Band. Mr. Lemos has devoted his time to several educational and civic organizations as well. He is a past recipient of the Decorated Medal of the Order of Merit from the Government of Portugal.

However, Mr. Lemos is perhaps best noted for his writings, both musical and otherwise. He is the author of the books "A Speck of Dust" and "A Speck of Dust 2," both of which chronicle his thoughts concerning the universe, life and death, time, education, politics and more. He has also written 55 musical compositions, all of which can be heard on his website, www.arthurlemos.com. In light of his many achievements, Mr. Lemos was chosen to be featured in the 58th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America, the 7th and 8th editions of Who's Who in American Education, and several editions of Who's Who in the World.
