DALLAS, TX, July 15, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Genesis Women's Shelter began operations in Dallas in January 1985 as a haven and place of peace and comfort for victims of domestic abuse. Genesis also houses and cares for many children of all ages who are also victims of domestic abuse, or who are related to victims of domestic violence residing at Genesis.

Amber Shemesh, senior family law associate at MAS Law Firm has been volunteering with Genesis since 2011. Her volunteer work with this amazing charitable organization allows her to further her interests in strong community building through service, as she sees every day the vital importance of healthy families and individuals, and the crucial value the work of organizations like Genesis.

Amber has been taking part in such programs as assisting with sports activities, reading, arts and crafts, and gathering and presenting toys and gifts to clients of Genesis. For the past four years, Amber and her firm have been organizing an annual office-wide toy drive to collect gifts and toys for children living at the Genesis.

Amber has also started mobilizing her co-workers to become a part of the Genesis activities for arts and crafts, where everyone goes to the local shelter and spends time with children. These interactive programs are carefully designed to allow children to communicate and connect with other adults and role models in our community, while providing a fun and creatively expressive activity to look forward to, be excited about and remember as a positive experience.

The children at these events have wonderful one-on-one interaction with the volunteers, receiving lots of attention that many of these children crave and need to heal. The craft projects are usually ones that produce artwork that the children can keep, as they reflect upon the laughter and memories associated with the keepsake creation. A further benefit, these arts and crafts projects are a chance and opportunity for children, who are often underprivileged and recovering from trauma, to experience the healing gift of creating something of their own through painting, drawing, molding clay, putting together an intricate caterpillar prop. These classes are a cherished playtime that the children at Genesis might not have access to on a day-to-day basis.

For all of these inspiring reasons, and many more, the children at Genesis continue to touch the hearts of the entire MAS team. Volunteering there is a pleasure.

Amber and her team of Dallas divorce and family law attorneys are participating in activities at Genesis every three months. Amber is also leading and motivating her co-workers to be a part of these volunteer activities on regular basis.

Amber K. Shemesh, senior family law associate at MAS Law Firm, is an immensely passionate and devoted advocate for client needs, championing beneficial outcomes in all areas of family law. In addition to her diverse and active practice, she is also a dedicated volunteer on such charitable initiatives as Genesis Women's Shelter and The Family Place.
