Attorney Robert Flowers Baker Recognized for Excellence in Law

A certified mediator and arbitrator, Mr. Baker has been admitted to practice in North Carolina for more than 50 years



He is an active member and former president of the North Carolina Bar Association, as well as a fellow and former state chair with the American College of Trial Lawyers.

    DURHAM, NC, April 21, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Robert Flowers Baker has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Prior to becoming a certified mediator and arbitrator, Mr. Baker graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Davidson College in 1958 and a J.D. from Duke University School of Law in 1961. Upon being discharged from the United States Army with the rank of captain in 1963, Mr. Baker accepted a position as an associate with Spears & Spears, a law firm located in Durham. By 1967, he was recognized as a partner, a position he held for more than 30 years. During this time, the firm was known as Spears, Barnes, Baker, Wainio & Whaley.

Deeply committed to the legal community, Mr. Baker is actively involved with numerous organizations, including the North Carolina State Bar and he received The Order of Long Leaf Pine, North Carolina's highest civilian honor. He is an active member and former president of the North Carolina Bar Association, as well as a fellow and former state chair with the American College of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Baker has been admitted to practice in North Carolina since 1961. Previously, he served as the president of Hope Valley Country Club, as well as the Tobaccoland Kiwanis Club located in Durham. He also served as senior warden of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church of Durham, NC.

Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Baker has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World. In addition, he was selected for inclusion in the 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th editions of Who's Who in American Law, which were published between 1989 and 2015. Widely regarded for his unwavering commitment to his clients, Mr. Baker continues to be called upon as a mediator and arbitrator after having retired from the practice of law in 2002.
