DANA POINT, CA, March 20, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Augusto Sola, MD, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in pediatrics.

Dr. Sola has 40 years of medical experience, having recently established his self-titled practice. Throughout his career, he has set himself apart as a skilled professional in the areas of neonatology and newborn care. He has been department director of neonatal centers here in Universities and the US and in Argentina. He has contributed extensively to neonatal education and has conducted broad research on the problem of excess oxygen and how it affects babies. On a daily basis, he serves as a visiting professor in various medical centers in the Latin American region. He is also responsible for conducting research and serving as a consultant in education and research in neonatology in the US and abroad.

Dr. Sola is the author of more than 100 original publications, six neonatal textbooks and two manuals. Devoted to his profession, he participates in several educational activities, lectures, conferences and regional, national and international meetings.

Looking back, Dr. Sola attributes his success to his passion and focus on working for love of the job, not for the accolades that he receives. He does not wish to be in the public eye; rather, he simply endeavors to help others. He became involved in his profession partly due to his grandfather in Argentina, who believed that doctors had the best possible career. When he was 12 years old, his mother lost a premature baby, which motivated him to enter the field of pediatrics. When he was finishing his medical education, the specialty of newborn care was nonexistent. After coming to the United States in 1974, there were very few that focused on neonatal care.

Dr. Sola received pediatric residency training through The University of Massachusetts, Worcester, and completed a fellowship at The University of Massachusetts, Worcester. His additional postgraduate studies were completed at The University of California in San Francisco and the Cardio Vascular Research Institute. Dr. Sola received an MD from the University of Buenos Aires Medical School, where he graduated in 1973. In addition to his formal education, Dr. Sola is a board certified pediatrician and neonatologist. He was recently inducted into Worldwide Registry and also maintains affiliation with the American Pediatric Society, the Society for Pediatric Research, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Ibero-American Society of Neonatology (SIBEN) which he presides and numerous other health care organizations. In the next five years, Dr. Sola would like to continue to collaborate with others in order to improve education among the health care providers who take care of sick newborns.
