BROOKLYN, NY, November 29, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Austin Pets Alive! has been named the December 2010 beneficiary for Rescue Chocolate, the vegan chocolate company which donates 100% of its profits to various animal rescue organizations.

Since its founding in June 2008, the Austin animal group has saved 5,859 dogs and cats and has facilitated 4,881 pet adoptions. It is active in finding foster homes for the animals, and has recently opened a new Resource Center building where potential adopters can meet their future pets.

While Rescue Chocolate has lent its support to all kinds of animal groups, from Farm Sanctuary to the No-Kill Advocacy Center, the company has not chosen a Texas-based beneficiary before now.

Austin Pets Alive! is one of the premiere groups working to make Austin a no-kill city. Last year in Austin, 6,161 healthy dogs and cats were euthanized because there was no room for them in the city's shelters and no adoptive homes could be found. The group also offers advice to pet owners under its P.A.S.S. program, which stands for Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender.

"Austin is taking so many forward-moving steps, and I want to help in my small way to push the city even closer to the no-kill goal," said Rescue Chocolate founder Sarah Gross. "I'm based in New York, but I'm happy to reach out to Texas. Especially in the winter, when my bars won't melt between here and there!"

Her company offers a product line of kosher and vegan chocolate bars and truffles. Each flavor is named after an issue important in the animal rescue world. For example, there are bars called Peanut Butter Pit Bull, Pick Me! Pepper, Foster-iffic Peppermint, The Fix, and Mission Feral Fig.

The chocolate company was founded in January 2010. Products are sold in retail outlets around the country as well as online (www.RescueChocolate.com). For more information on Austin Pets Alive!, visit http://www.AustinPetsAlive.org.

Rescue Chocolate, the sweetest way to save a life! 100% of net proceeds go to animal rescue!
