Author Roxanne Bland Announces Science Fiction Novel, 'The Moreva Of Astoreth'

'The Moreva of Astoreth' is a blend of science fiction, romance, and adventure in a unique, richly imagined imperialistic society in which gods and science are indelibly intertwined.

WILMINGTON, NC, March 03, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Author Roxanne Bland has announced her latest science fiction novel, 'The Moreva of Astoreth', a spellbinding blend of science fiction, romance and adventure.

In the writing traditions of authors such as Laurell K. Hamilton, Andre Norton and Anne McCaffrey, Roxanne is a builder of worlds. She takes readers on fantastic journeys that are extraordinarily different, yet somehow completely familiar. She masterfully blends topics such as forbidden love, political intrigue and bigotry into compelling storylines that allow readers to view their own culture and customs through the eyes of alien and paranormal races. Through deftly crafted prose sprinkled with humor, Roxanne addresses subjects like bigotry and politics straight on, all the while offering readers a chance of finding real hope - in this world and any other.

'The Moreva of Astoreth' details the story of priestess, scientist, and healer Moreva Tehi, the spoiled, headstrong granddaughter of a powerful deity who is banished for a year to a volatile far corner of the planet for neglecting to perform her sacred duty, only to venture into dangerous realms of banned experimentation, spiritual rebirth, and fervent, forbidden love.

"I've been a fugitive from reality since forever. Reality is highly overrated, you know."

In the storyline of the book, Moreva Tehi is a mixed-race priestess--she carries the bloodline of the Devi gods and the mortal hakoi--but she hates her hakoi heritage. After missing an important ritual because the hakoi were given leave to participate, she is exiled from Temple life for a year to Mjor, a backwater village located in the planet's far northern territory, to assume the roles of custodian of the spaceship landing beacon and spiritual leader/commander of the military garrison stationed there. Intending to spend the year secretly continuing her forbidden research into a cure for the dreaded red fever, and grudgingly attending to the hakoi garrison's spiritual needs, Moreva Tehi is completely unprepared for the hakoi Mjoran chief--the charismatic, golden-haired Laerd Teger, whose elusiveness and cool disdain the Moreva finds both fascinating and infuriating. For it is he who will force Moreva Tehi to question everything she thought she knew, drive her to break her most sacred vows and seek out the dark secrets of her gods and her world, setting them both on a course that can only lead to damnation and death.

Reviewers and readers have praised 'The Moreva of Astoreth'. Reviewer Chris Fischer said, "'The Moreva of Astoreth' is a story that will likely stay with readers long after the last page has been read." D. Donovan with Midwest Book Review stated, "'The Moreva of Astoreth' is especially recommended for genre readers who want their characters, settings, and plots carefully and firmly cemented with a sense of place to support the greater goal of a powerful story that becomes hard to put down."
