Around the Corner Cafe, located in Orting, Washington - is known as a country style "Cheers". It is a place where everybody knows your name and a place where the owners and employees are glad they do.
"It's truly been a gift to our family", said Farnes, whose 17 year old daughter is planning to join the Air Force next June, "we want to spend time with our daughter before she goes in to the service and so we thought, what better way to do that than to hold a contest where someone can win this gift! We are paying it forward so another family like ours, can be as blessed as we were by this cafe' and this town."
From now until Oct. 3, Around the Corner Cafe' is accepting essays from people who want to take over the 75-seat restaurant, located in the picturesque rural town of Orting, WA which has approximately 6,000 residents. Essays may be submitted online, in written form or as a video entry. Applicants will pay a $100 entrance fee and write an essay answering four simple questions. Seven Orting Chamber of Commerce members, including the City's Mayor and School District Superintendent, will review all the entries and choose five finalists who will compete by running the cafe' for a week each. The contest is being filmed by One Special Dream Studio, out of Portland, OR for a possible reality TV show and special interest production.
The owners have linked their love for their community directly into the contest. Those who work in and frequently visit the Cafe' will get to vote on one of the five finalists in order give the Cafe' to someone interested in its reputation and benefit to the community. "We want to make sure that we don't just give it to anybody and have it go bad," said Carl, 44. "We want to make sure whoever comes in is successful and able to do a lot for this community."
The winner will receive the turnkey, revenue producing business which includes the Cafe's famous recipes, the inventory and equipment, stock on hand, a five year lease at $2,000 per month which is significantly reduced from market rate, the first 6 months rent free and 6 months mentoring from the current Cafe' owners and instant take home pay for the new owner! The estimated value of this package is somewhere between $400 - 500,000. The entry fee money will be held in trust
