CHAPEL HILL, NC, January 14, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle (www.thecot.org) will host its first concert of 2010 on Sunday, January 17. The 3 p.m. concert will be held at the Carolina Theatre in Durham and feature a guest performance by award-winning pianist Benjamin Moser.

Moser is the winner of the Sander Buchman Memorial First Prize in the 2007 Young Concert Artists International Auditions. He was also the 2006 Young Concert Artists European Auditions winner and the first prize finisher in Berlin's Arthur Schnabel Piano Competition.

"I had the pleasure of hearing Benjamin at the finals of the Young Concert Artists Competition in 2006," says Lorenzo Muti, artistic director and conductor of The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle. "I was immediately impressed by his command of the keyboard, as well as the mixture of phrasing elegance and formidable technique. These are clear signs of an extraordinary performer."

Born in Munich, Germany, Moser began studying piano at the age of five. Early in life, he was a student of Michael Schäfer at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. Since 2002, he has worked with Klaus Hellwig at the University of the Arts in Berlin. Moser has appeared as soloist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich Symphony Orchestra and the Northwest German Philharmonic.

Moser will be performing Frederic Chopin's "Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Minor, op. 21." The orchestra will also perform Hugo Wolf's "Italian Serenade," Jean Sibelius's "Valse Triste" and Zoltan Kodály's "Dances of Galanta."

Additional 2009-2010 season performances include:
• March 14, 2010 - Ballet Meets Orchestra - works by composers Johnson, Copland and Roussel
• May 16, 2010 - All-European Program - works by composers Rossini, Schubert and Mozart
To emphasize its commitment to engaging young people with great classical music, the orchestra provides free seating at every concert to students of all ages. Tickets are available at the Carolina Theatre box office or by calling 919.560.3030.
