BALAM Dance Theatre to Present Enchanted Forest Dances in Central Park

BALAM Dance Theatre will perform Enchanted Forest Dances, a nature themed program of rarely seen Balinese and Spanish dances presented by the Central Park Conservancy, in New York City's Central Park on September 15.
    NEW YORK, NY, September 08, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- BALAM Dance Theatre (BALAM) will present on Peter Jay Sharp Children's Glade in Central Park, New York City on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 12-1:15 p.m. the vibrant, new program Enchanted Forest Dances, a dance performance showcasing Balinese, Spanish Escuela Bolera dances and original fused pieces.

This family friendly program, created for the Central Park Conservancy's series A Clearing in the Forest, includes a brief lesson of Balinese and Spanish dances for the audience. The program is free and open to the public.

Enchanted Forest Dances offers a whimsical array of diverse cultural dance styles from around the world fused with Balinese theatre. The program features the dazzling Balinese dance duet Oleg Tambulilingan (Love Dance of the Bumblebees) performed by the company's resident Balinese guest artist Nani Devi, a native of Indonesia, and artistic director Carlos Fittante. The program's eclectic repertoire also includes La-Tinita, a humorous masked solo choreographed to the Latin music hit Piel de Canela performed by principal ballerina Robin Gilbert to a classic cha-cha-cha, and Una Paloma Blanca, sung by BALAM's resident guest actor and the world's first and only Flamenco comedian Inma Heredia.

Other pieces that will be performed are La Madrileņa, a charming 19th century Spanish theatrical dance with Barbara Romero of Danzas Espaņolas, and BALAM's signature work, Ramayana-Abduction of Sita, an action packed story ballet inspired by the Hindu epic blending Balinese and diverse movement styles, performed by the entire company.
