LOS ANGELES, CA, July 22, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- Transfiguration Elementary School takes home the first place prize in Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza's (BHCP) "Shop To Help Your School" program. Transfiguration students and family members turned in the most receipts from shopping trips at BHCP, during a six month long competition among eight other area elementary schools enrolled in the BHCP Kids program, the mall's education and health initiative.
As the first place prize winners, Transfiguration was awarded a check for $2,500. Transfiguration plans to use the winnings toward renovating their library. In second place, St. Bernadette's Catholic School will be awarded $1,500; they will use this money for new teaching supplies. Tom Bradley Elementary School came into third place and will collect a check for $1000. The school plans to use the prize money from BHCP to purchase new projection equipment.
"In these tough economic times, Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza through the BHCP Kids program is always looking for different ways to partner with local schools," said Ben Richardson, General Manager of BHCP. "The 'Shop to Help Your School' program has been a big hit over the last three years, but the real proof of success is the fact that our schools have been able to use their winnings to improve things within the classroom."
Through the "Shop to Help Your School" program, Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza has awarded $16,000 to area schools in the past three years.
