LANCASTER, CA, February 26, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ --Professional educator, Barbara Ann Allen holds strongly to the belief that dreams, goals and successes are achieved by dedication to oneself. It is with this in mind that she sat down with Cambridge Who's Who for an interview to talk about the importance of a stress-free education and the keys to student success. Allen currently serves as an adjunct instructor for Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, California, Pierce College of the Los Angeles Unified School District in Woodland Hills and Azusa Pacific University at their satellite campus in Victorville, California. Professionally trained in physical education - she holds degrees in kinesiology and physical education - Allen teaches health education, CPR, first aid, swimming and weightlifting.
Inspired not only by athletics, Allen has personal reasons for her vocational choice. "I am a cancer survivor, so I wanted to inform other people how to eat right, exercise and [teach them] what they can do to [become] stress free so [that] they don't get cancer." The focus of her classroom discussions often revolve around nutrition, first aid and wellness. Allen takes great pride in the fact that her classes are simultaneously interactive and relaxing. "The most exciting part of my job [occurs] when I see students really stressed out from their day at work, from other classes, from a test they had, and by the time we are done in my class, they're stress free and they're happy," she beamed.
In addition to her responsibilities as a classroom teacher, Allen is a renowned community volunteer for local soccer tournaments. She serves as an executive board member for the American Red Cross and works with the Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of the USA as a mentor to talk about disaster preparedness and provide CPR and first aid instruction. Her other affiliations include the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, and the National Athletic Trainers' Association.
Maintaining the usual attributes that make a teacher a notable presence in the classroom, Allen's naturally vivacious and enthusiastic personality demonstrates something more. That something is the care and attendance she gives to each and every student. Allen maintains that in order for students to be successful, they have to foster feelings of confidence and self worth. Backed by her unwavering resolve, she commented, "One of the lessons I believe [to be] most important, is making sure the students realize that they are important and they are successful—they just don't know it yet. I want to make sure they understand that, [even if] I'm an instructor and I'm in front of the room, that they still have a lot of value to add to the class. They should always feel that they have control of their life."
Allen holds a master's degree in science and physical education from Azusa Pacific University, a bachelor of science in kinesiology from California State University, San Bernardino, and an associate degree in letters, arts and sciences from Antelope Valley College. She resides in Palmdale with her husband, Jim, and her two daughters, Alicia and Michelle.
