In 1992, Dr. Keirns Melendez earned an MD from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She went on to complete a chief residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Brooke Army Medicine Center at Fort Sam Houston. Dr. Keirns Melendez also holds a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of Toledo. She is a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Keirns Melendez has served as chairwoman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, N.Y. and chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Fort Stewart in Georgia. She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the American Medical Association, and the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons.

Looking toward the future, Dr. Keirns Melendez plans to maintain a high standard of practice and continue her involvement in community education and advocacy, such as in local cancer awareness groups. She aims to be an advocate for women and evolve with the changing health care system.
