Barock Exhibition Explores Baroque and Modern-Day Art

One exhibition in Naples aims to explore art and the way in which the Baroque era influences modern-day works.

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND, December 25, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Anyone staying in accommodation in Naples in the new year may want to take in one art exhibition that could challenge their views on the subject and one of its movements.

Barock - Art, Science, Faith and Technology in the Contemporary Age is an event being held at the city's Madre museum.

Although it launched on December 13th, the spectacle is open until April 5th 2010, which gives art enthusiasts plenty of time to pay a visit during their time in the region.

The exhibition is being curated by Eduardo Cicelyn and Mario Codognato and explores cultural themes from the beginning of the new century and how they can be compared to those that made "the visual imagination of the Baroque Age so powerful and distinctive", organisers state.

A total of 28 contemporary artists have contributed to the project, including Jeff Koons, Cindy Sherman and Damien Hirst, the Turner Prize winner who was known for his works that include preserving a series of dead animals, such as a shark and a cow, in formaldehyde.

The exhibition explores the way in which themes from 17th-century Baroque culture are revived by modern-day talents such as these.

If you're heading to Barock this year, we strongly advise that you book your hotel Napoli as soon as possible, given the huge popularity of the event.
