/24-7PressRelease/ - Columbia, MO, August 20, 2008, Barri L. Bumgarner, Author and Instructor at the University of Missouri, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of education.

With more than 19 years of professional experience, Ms. Bumgarner excels in writing, as well as teaching creative fiction, nonfiction, and education courses. An accomplished author, she has published three award-winning novels: "8 Days," "Slipping" and "Dregs." "Dregs" received the Walter Williams Major Work Award in April as Runner-up. She has been honored with multiple awards from the Missouri Writers' Guild for her articles and for her novel "Slipping" in 2005, and has also received the Writer's Digest 72nd Annual Writing Competition honors for her article "Inspire Magic" in 2004. Besides her work as a writer and educator, she is also a motivational speaker and has been a keynote speaker and guest of honor at numerous conferences. Prior to joining the University of Missouri, she worked as a seventh grade teacher at Louisiana Middle School, as a director for KinderCare Learning Centers, and as an eighth and ninth grade teacher at Oakland Junior High School in Columbia, Missouri.

Currently pursuing her Doctorate, Ms. Bumgarner earned her Master's Degree in English Education from the University of Missouri and her Bachelor of Science in Education from Missouri State University. She is a board member of the Missouri Writers' Guild, as well as for the Missouri Center for the Book, and is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators and the National Association of Women Writers. She stays current with the trends in her profession by conducting research and enrolling in continuing education courses, and mentors teachers and writers. Upon completion of her Ph.D., Barri will return to being a full-time author.
