/24-7PressRelease/ - LOS ANGELES, CA, August 12, 2008 -- The Bejing Olympics 2008 Official Web site, NBCOlympics.com, tallied over 70 million page views on Friday, breaking its own one-day traffic record on the same day that bivOt.com released Web browser toolbar number 8, the "OlympicBivOt."
Visitors were drawn by news of a spectacular Olympics opening night ceremony from Beijing on NBC which averaged 34.2 million viewers, making it the biggest television event since the Super Bowl, blowing away this year's Academy Awards and American Idol finale.
It also set a new record for viewership of a non-U.S. Olympic opening ceremony, besting the 2000 Sydney games (27.3 million viewers) and the 2004 Athens games (25.4 million viewers).
Most Olympic events will be shown live on NBC local stations, NBC Universal's cable networks or on the NBC Olympics Web site, which users can access via the Olympic Toolbar by bivOt.
The toolbar for Internet Explorer or Firefox Web browsers includes links for navigating the NBC Olympics web site and live RSS feeds for news on each Olympic event. It features several gadgets that enable viewers to follow the athletes, view current medal counts and more. There is even a "Mini Olympics" game that lets visitors participate in archery, weightlifting and diving events.
