/24-7PressRelease/ - CAMBRIDGE, MA, April 08, 2006 - On Sunday April 30, 2006 Toast Lounge in Somerville and DykeNight Productions will host the Same Love, Same Rights Benefit After Party. Ticket proceeds will benefit two local non-profit organizations recognized in the GLBT community: the Freedom To Marry Coalition (FTMC) and Pathways to Wellness. Produced in conjunction with Rainbow Wedding Network's (RWN) Third Annual Same Love, Same Rights GLBT Wedding and Family Expo this event will feature live music, DJ performances throughout the day, and a newly released short film documentary on the struggle for marriage equality in Massachusetts.
This year's benefit party will feature live performances by Apple Betty, a local all-girl trio recently featured in the Boston Phoenix and the Boston Globe, and singer-songwriter Pamela Means whose acoustic folk and jazz music have mesmerized audiences across the country. Means has shared the stage with Ani DiFranco, Joan Baez, Neil Young, Shawn Colvin, Melissa Ferrick and the Violent Femmes. Girlfriends Magazine stated "Outspoken, acoustic guitar player Pamela Means is in a class by herself". She will also perform a short preview set at the Sheraton Commander Hotel during the Same Love, Same Rights GLBT Wedding and Family Expo that afternoon at 2 PM.
Joining Apple Betty and Pamela Means will be DJ Deja, Denise LaCarubba. As a 16 year veteran of the DJ business LaCarubba has worked for clubs, private parties, weddings, fundraisers and currently plays live on the air for WZLX 100.7 FM. She has partnered with RWN and sponsored the Same Love, Same Rights GLBT Wedding and Family Expo for three years running and works regularly with DJ Kristen Porter of Dyke Night Productions. Also premiering that evening will be the short film "Legal At Last" produced and directed by Naomi Raiselle of Generations Video Stories and edited by DAVYDE X, Jack Brotman and Cassandra McManus. The documentary features footage of same-sex weddings, politicians and religious leaders, including an interview with Mayor Menino.
