Bernard A. Hickin Recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Winemaking

    ROWLAND FLAT, SA, AUSTRALIA, August 17, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bernard A. Hickin, the Chief Winemaker of Orlando Wines for Premium Wine Brands Pty., Ltd., the regional entity of Pernod Ricard, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in winemaking and distribution.

Born into a wine-loving family, Mr. Hickin naturally developed a familiarity with the industry and quickly realized his own passion for wine and its many varieties. While completing a degree in winemaking and learning about general agriculture at Roseworthy Agricultural College, Mr. Hickin began working vintage at Berri Estate in South Australia's Riverland. With the opportunity to work under numerous influential winemakers, Mr. Hickin realized his potential early on, accepting in 1976 his first job with Orlando Wines at their Griffith winery. In charge of the production of sparkling wine and uniquely labeled bottles, Mr. Hickin committed himself to producing the best wine possible from the region. That same year, the Jacob's Creek brand was launched, which would later become Mr. Hickin's primary focus and one of the most famous and trusted wines produced in Australia.

In 1987, Mr. Hickin found himself being relocated to the Barossa winery as the new Operations Winemaker, where he lent his expertise to white, botrytis (dessert) and sparkling wine. He became the Senior White and Sparkling winemaker in 1994 and took on this same responsibility for the entire group in 1997. In 2006, Mr. Hickin was promoted to Chief Winemaker of Orlando Wines, where he now enjoys striving to continually improve the company's brands every year.

Presently, Mr. Hickin utilizes his 36 years of practice in the winemaking industry to manage the quality and style of products produced for Orlando Wines. His passion lies in cultivating the beauty of the Jacob's Creek wines, as he has been involved with the brand's progression from the time of its debut. Traveling the world extensively, Mr. Hickin devotes much effort to promoting Jacob's Creek and numerous other brands of wine, as well as judging the quality of the wines he creates.

Recognized for his success, Mr. Hickin was inducted into the exclusive fraternity Barons of Barossa in South Australia. He also sits on the Wine Barossa Committee, serves as a director of the International Riesling Foundation and is a member of the Wine Communicators of Australia. In the future, he looks forward to continuing to refine his winemaking skills and pass his knowledge onto others through informative and delicious wine tastings.
