Betsy H. Kaplan Named Professional of the Year in Arts and Education Advocacy

Veteran Educator with Extensive Experience, Retired from the Miami-Dade County School Board



    MIAMI, FL, August 26, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Betsy H. Kaplan, Retired Board Member from the Miami-Dade County School Board, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Arts and Education Advocacy. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.

Prior to her retirement, Ms. Kaplan gained an unprecedented 47 years of professional experience in the education field. During her tenure with the Miami-Dade County School Board, she specialized in art education and advocacy for its inclusion as an academic subject, student guidance and speech and radio communication. She considers traveling to Washington with the school board to be the highlight of her career and attributes her success to her tenacity, educational background, management skills, and love for the arts. A decorated award winner, Ms. Kaplan was honored with the Heart of the Arts Award from the New World School of the Arts in 2004, the Lifetime Service Award for Music Education in Florida and the United States in 2000 from the Women's Committee of 100, the Trailblazer Award from the Jewish Congress in 1993, the Ruth Wolkowsky Greenfield Award, the French Academic Palms Award in 1991, and the President's Award from Florida School Boards in 2004.

A certified teacher, Ms. Kaplan received her Bachelor of Fine Arts and her Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan College in 1948 and 1947 respectively. She is a member of ArtSouth Homestead, the Council of Urban Boards of Education, the Foundation Board of the New World School of Arts, the Support Board of Arts for Learning, the Miami Children's Chorus, the Advisory Board of the Jewish Museum of Florida, the Advisory Board of Temple Israel of Greater Miami, the American Association of University Women, and Phi Delta Kappa, and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
