BYRNES MILL, MO, March 13, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ --Betty J. Seeley, retired Juvenile Officer for Jefferson County of Missouri and retired Chief Juvenile Officer for the 23rd Judicial Circuit of Jefferson County, Missouri, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in civil service.
Prior to her retirement, Betty J. Seeley worked as a Juvenile Officer and Chief Juvenile Officer for the 23rd Judicial Circuit of Jefferson County, Missouri, gaining more than four decades of professional expertise in civil service. A specialist in urban affairs and program development, she developed multiple programs including several group homes and an outreach mentorship cooperative. Throughout her career in Jefferson County, she gave approximately 600 speeches on topics pertaining to the juvenile court, child abuse and incest. She was also in charge of supervising up to 25 employees and taking cases to court.
Before becoming a Juvenile Officer, Mrs. Seeley played a crucial role in the development of mental healthcare in Jefferson County. In 1972, mental healthcare in Jefferson County did not, for all practical purposes, exist. As a part of a group of dedicated citizens, she helped to create Community Treatment, Inc. (COMTREA). The doors opened in the spring of 1974. Today, COMTREA remains committed to its mission to be an innovative, effective, and responsive community mental health center for Jefferson County. In addition, its adolescent chemical abuse and family counseling efforts now extend to South St. Louis County and other parts of the St. Louis Metropolitan area. COMTREA is committed to assisting these areas in securing adequate mental health, and family counseling care. Most recently, Mrs. Seeley was recognized with the naming of the Betty Seeley Building, which commemorated her 33 years of service.
Though retired, Mrs. Seeley continues to lecture and contribute to her community. She serves as a hospice volunteer for the Visiting Nurse Association and Jefferson Memorial Hospital, and volunteers her time to the Jefferson County Community Services Forum, Faith United Methodist Church, and the Jefferson County Community Partnership, to name a few. Additionally, Mrs. Seeley is a proud grandmother of 12, with another grandchild on the way. She is currently preparing to celebrate her 65th wedding anniversary with her loving husband, Norval.
Mrs. Seeley holds a bachelor's degree in urban affairs and community service from Saint Louis University. For more information on Jefferson County Missouri, visit http://www.comtrea.org/faq.html.
