Beverly Hills Breast Augmentation Practice Sees Increase in Procedures

More women in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills are making appointments for breast enhancement procedures.

LOS ANGELES, CA, August 14, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The year-end statistics for procedures performed in 2012 show breast augmentation as the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the United States, according to both the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). This trend is evident at Simply Breasts (http://www.simplybreasts.com/), a Beverly Hills practice specializing in breast enhancement procedures.

The ASPS data shows that breast augmentation has been the top cosmetic surgery in the country since 2006, and that number of breast augmentations has increased 35 percent over the last 12 years. The ASAPS showed a total of 330,631 augmentations performed in 2012, which is a 4.4 percent increase from 2011, and a nearly 227 percent increase from 1997, when the ASAPS first started recording procedure data.

"Women want to feel sexier and more feminine, and breast augmentation can be the ideal solution," says Dr. David N. Sayah, a breast augmentation specialist in Los Angeles and one of the surgeons at Simply Breasts. "The procedure is safe, effective and delivers beautiful results. It's no surprise that it's the number one surgery in Beverly Hills."

Over half of all breast augmentations are performed on women between the ages of 19 and 34, with the 35-50 demographic coming in second. Nearly three-fourths of breast augmentations were performed using silicone implants last year, according to the ASAPS. The ASAPS also lists that the primary motivation for considering breast augmentations are purely cosmetic, with asymmetry coming in as the most common concern.

"Women are becoming more committed to investing in themselves," explains Dr. Sayah. "Implants are about more than just cosmetics; they can help boost self-confidence and self-esteem, and those benefits are priceless."

Breast implants are available filled with either silicone or saline, although the outer shells of both are made of silicone. Recently, the FDA approved a third type of implant that's filled with a highly cohesive silicone gel, nicknamed the "gummy bear" implant. Saline implants are more liquid, while silicone gel implants have the consistency of jelly. Highly cohesive silicone gel implants are the firmest option for breast augmentation.

Although implants are the most popular choice for improving the figure, they are far from the only breast enhancement procedure available for women. While implants add volume, addressing asymmetry and placement are also important elements to help women feel more positive about their breast appearance.

One of these enhancements is a breast lift, which reshapes and repositions natural breast tissue for a higher, perkier look without implants. Breast lifts can also be combined with implants for more comprehensive results, and were in the top five cosmetic surgeries performed last year. The ASAPS reports a 540 percent increase in breast lifts performed since 1997.

For women who are self-conscious about the appearance of more generous breasts, a breast reduction can also improve the figure. A breast reduction removes excess fat and glandular tissue to create breasts that are more proportionate to a woman's frame. In some cases, breast reductions may be combined with a lift for an even better profile.

The center of choice for breast augmentation specialists in the Beverly Hills and Los Angeles areas, the Institute of Surgical Arts (http://www.simplybreasts.com/) for breast surgery and cosmetic enhancements is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to helping women look and feel good about themselves. The center partners with the top local cosmetic and plastic surgeons, providing them with a world-class facility and patients with the top care in the region.
