    October 10, 2008 /EIN News/ -- Big Sky Carbon Sequestration Partnership Annual Meeting:

The Big Sky Carbon Sequestration Partnership invites the public to their Annual Meeting in Spokane, Washington on October 28th and 29th. The meeting will address key issues related to the science, policy and technology of carbon capture and storage (CCS). Panels of experts will discuss the latest developments in carbon sequestration technologies, the economics of CCS, regulatory and mitigation procedures, energy policies, costs and opportunities in CCS, and national and global carbon sequestration efforts. Both terrestrial and geologic sequestration efforts will be discussed. The Partnership technical leads will also provide an update on the BSCSP pilot projects and current research efforts. Following the presentations, audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions and engage with the speakers.

Led by Montana State University, the Big Sky Carbon Sequestration Partnership (BSCSP) is one of seven regional partnerships involved in the US Department of Energy's carbon sequestration program. The BSCSP region encompasses Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, South Dakota and the eastern part of Washington and Oregon. The BSCSP engages in cutting-edge carbon sequestration research and development; economic and regulatory analyses; public education and outreach; and regional demonstration projects to deploy new technologies. The partnerships include participatory efforts from national laboratories, universities, private research institutions, government agencies, and Native American tribes.

Presentations will include speakers from the following institutions:

• Schlumberger
• Northwest Energy Coalition
• Portland General Electric
• United Power
• Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ)
• Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
• Washington Department of Ecology
• National Carbon Offset Coalition
• Local agriculturalists
• Regional universities and national laboratories
The 2008 Annual meeting will start Tuesday, October 28th at 8:30 a.m. and conclude the following afternoon. The meeting is free and open to the public, but registration is required by October 17th, 2008.
