LOS ANGELES, CA, March 27, 2010
/24-7PressRelease/ -- Mindy Fox, Los Angeles-based marriage and family therapist specializing in body-mind therapy, helps patients suffering from anxiety, depression, ADD and PTSD return to a natural state of mind. Neurofeedback (also called EEG biofeedback) improves self-regulation which enhances mental performance, emotional control and physiological stability.
Neurofeedback is a way of learning to alter brain wave activity. Patients learn how to change their brain wave patterns using auditory and visual feedback. This allows the central nervous system to return to a state of balance and harmony through a safe and noninvasive experience.
"I was introduced to neurofeedback when I was searching for treatments for my son. It has had a positive impact on his issues and those of my clients," said Mindy Fox, MFT. "Neurofeedback is a good supplement to medication and talk therapy. It has fewer side effects than meds, and if you can reduce the dependency on meds for your child (or yourself) or even lessen the necessary dosage, then I'd say neurofeedback is doing its job."
Research estimates that ADHD is found in 1.5 to 2 percent of adults (Hunt, 1997) and between two and six percent of adolescents (Murphy & Barkley, 1996). "Neurofeedback is not a cure-all, but rather a powerful and effective treatment that many people are unaware of," said Fox. "There are several controlled studies where neurofeedback has proven to be affective, I recommend you try it with an experienced practitioner and see if it works."
Neurofeedback has also been found to improve cognitive performance in sports and business, as well as improve artistic performance. As reported in this recent Associated Press article, Canada invested $110 million in their "Own the Podium" initiative where Canadian Olympians underwent neurofeedback treatment to improve performance.
