Sailboats on Boston Harbor
BOSTON, MA, April 08, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- In this city, the sight of billowing sails on the Harbor is as certain a sign of spring as the swan boats in the Public Garden and the crowds returning to Fenway Park.
Boston's favorite annual sailing event returns on Saturday and Sunday, April 25 and April 26, as the Boston Sailing Center again offers free sailing trips to the public from 1pm to 5pm to mark the official start of the local sailing season.
First-time sailors as well as more experienced skippers are invited to join the festivities at Lewis Wharf. Sailing trips along Boston's historic waterfront will be conducted by aboard a fleet of boats ranging in length from 23 to 40 feet. The Center's award-winning teaching staff will be on hand to answer questions about sailing basics and introduce people of all ages to the exciting sport.
Lesson and membership programs will be discounted during the event. A portion of the fees will be donated to Save The Harbor/Save the Bay, a nonprofit agency working to protect and promote Boston Harbor as one of the region's great recreational resources.
This year marks the 33rd annual Free-Sailing Weekend hosted by the Center. Headquartered in a converted Louisiana riverboat that is permanently docked at Lewis Wharf, the Center is just a short walk from Faneuil Hall Marketplace and the Blue Line/Aquarium MBTA stop. Public parking is available nearby.
