BOWIE, MD, October 19, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- For many, the idea of having perfectly straight teeth seems impossible. From teeth that are chipped, misaligned, or worn down from years of grinding, to teeth that are severely stained from antibiotics, these problems can leave anyone feeling self-conscious; however, there is no need to be smile-conscious any longer. Dr. Siamak Aalemansour provides Bowie residents with cosmetic dentistry services, including dental veneers, which is a simple, quick option for getting a straighter, whiter smile.

Athletes can take quite a beating on the field; however, what most people don't think about it the beating an athlete's mouth can take during a game. In fact, over 5 million teeth are knocked out every year, resulting in nearing $500 million spent on replacing these teeth each year. The main culprit is sporting activities, which account for 13%-39% of dental injuries. However, despite dental injury causes, the fact remains that a chipped or knocked out tooth can make a smile fizzle. However, Dr. Aalemansour offers veneers in Bowie, which can transform any smile.

Dental veneers are wafer-thin, porcelain or plastic shells that are designed to cover the front of the teeth to improve their appearance. "Dental veneers are a great option for those looking to cover chipped or stained teeth, and gaps between teeth," says Dr. Aalemansour, dentist offering Bowie cosmetic dentistry. "They look just like normal teeth and the process and the procedure is so easy that little to no anesthesia is needed." This makes dental veneers a popular option for those who may fear the dentist or dental procedures.

"Getting veneers usually takes about three visits to our office," says Dr. Aalemansour, serving Bowie with cosmetic dentistry. "These three visits include diagnosis and treatment, preparation and then bonding." During the tooth preparation visit, the teeth are lightly buffed to account for the added thickness of the veneers once they are attached. Sometimes light anesthesia is required during the buffing process, as about 1/2 millimeter of enamel is removed from the tooth's surface. After teeth are buffed, an impression is taken of the mouth and teeth and sent to a laboratory to fabricate the veneers.

During the bonding visit, the veneer will be temporarily placed on the tooth to ensure the fit and color is correct. Then special cement is applied to the veneer and affixed to the tooth. Once the veneer is positioned properly, a special light beam is directed at the veneer to harden the cement and permanently adhere the veneer to the tooth. "After the bonding visit, there is usually a two-week follow-up visit to ensure that the patient's gums are responding well to the veneers and to examine the mouth after the procedure," says Dr. Aalemansour offering cosmetic dentistry in Bowie. "However, patients should continue to brush and floss daily, treating the veneers just like regular teeth."
