Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito Host Annual Youth of the Year Celebration August 5th at Del Mar Racetrack

North County Clubs Celebrate 50th Anniversary with Evening Horse Races, Dinner and Dancing, Wine Wall, Silent and Live Auctions, and Inspirational Stories from Seven Amazing Local Teens

SAN DIEGO, CA, June 09, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito are proud to announce that the annual Youth of the Year Celebration, "50 Years of Endless Summer," will take place on Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Del Mar Racetrack, Infield Pavilion. This year's Youth of the Year Celebration aligns with the clubs' 50th anniversary, which was founded in 1966 as the Boys Club of San Dieguito--the same year the iconic film "Endless Summer" hit the silver screen, making it the perfect theme for the festivities. Guests are encouraged to ditch the traditional gala wear and opt for Tommy Bahama shirts, sundresses and shades.

The celebration will include evening horse racing, silent and live auctions, a wine wall, a gourmet dinner, entertainment and dancing with the Mar Dels live band. Net proceeds raised will help provide funding for positive activities that allow children to learn, grow and develop healthy lifestyles within a safe and nurturing environment.

"We are excited to celebrate our 50th anniversary by honoring the outstanding boys and girls we work with every day," said Marineke Vandervort, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito. "This year is extremely important to our clubs as it marks 50 years of no child turned away, meaning we've been able to offer positive programs for every child who desires to be a part of our organization. Last year we surpassed the fundraising goal of $110,000 for the event! This year we are excited to see those numbers grow even larger as we celebrate a huge landmark for our founders, staff, students and supporters."

The Youth of the Year Award Program honors individuals that attend one of the seven Boys and Girls Clubs of San Dieguito locations including: Allred and Polster Clubs in Carmel Valley, Del Mar Club, Griset and Ocean Knoll Clubs in Encinitas, and Harper and La Colonia Clubs in Solana Beach.

The award acknowledges teens ages 14-18 for their achievements in leadership, service to community, academic excellence and healthy lifestyles. The award nominees exemplify the critical impact that Boys and Girls Clubs have on the lives of young people.

The winner of the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Dieguito Youth of the Year Award will receive a $1,000 college scholarship sponsored by the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito Foundation and will go on to compete in the local, state and regional levels for Youth of the Year, culminating in five regional winners meeting in Washington D.C. to compete for the National Youth of the Year title and a $50,000 college scholarship.
