/24-7PressRelease/ -- Break the Barriers, Inc., the nation's premier Ability Center is celebrating its 25th year as a vital member of the Fresno Community. The organization, participants, alumni and supporters will mark this milestone occasion at a fundraising luncheon to be held at the Fresno Convention Center's Valdez Hall, on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009 at 11:30 a.m.
"We are celebrating a magical 25 years and we invite our community to join us," said Deby Hergenrader, co-founder of Break the Barriers. "On this day supporters will meet some of the key people who continue to inspire us every day with their unfailing spirit, and will also enjoy thrilling performances by our international traveling team, The Barrier Breakers."
Steve and Deby Hergenrader founded Break the Barriers 25 years ago, inspired by Deby's sister, Kathy, who has Down Syndrome. The Hergenrader's are stewards of influence in the world of Inclusion. The organization is dedicated to accelerating awareness, understanding, acceptance and education for all people with various abilities. They have traveled the world to encourage awareness in several countries, resulting in training and the initiation of groundbreaking programs Romania, China and South Africa.
Mayor Ashley Swearengin will award a proclamation to Break the Barriers marking its 25 years of service to the Fresno community. This year's event will honor the families & friends who have helped to grow Break the Barriers from a small backyard operation to a 35,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility that offers gymnastics, dance, martial arts, aquatics and sign language to all members of the Fresno community.
