-- Brett W. Hawkins Sr., Ph.D., has been included in Marquis Who's Who for more than 25 years. Widely regarded for his knowledge in the field of political science, Dr. Hawkins served as a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for nearly three decades. Upon receiving a Bachelor of Arts, with high honors, from the University of Rochester, Dr. Hawkins attended Vanderbilt University on a National Defense Act Fellowship, where he received a Master of Arts in 1962 and a Ph.D. in 1964. During this time, he began a career as a political science instructor with Vanderbilt University and Washington and Lee University. Dr. Hawkins served as an assistant professor with Washington and Lee University from 1964 to 1965 before joining the University of Georgia, where he remained for five years. He later moved to Wisconsin, where he served as a professor with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee from 1971 until his retirement in 1999.
Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Hawkins contributed articles to a wide variety of journals, including The Journal of Politics, Pubulis, The Journal of Federalism, Midwest Review of Public Administration, Social Science Quarterly, Journal of American Institute Planners, National Civic Review, Policy, American Journal of Sociology, Policy Studies Review, Public Administration Quarterly, and Urban Affairs Quarterly. He has also authored numerous industry related-works, with the most recent being "Professional Associations and Municipal Innovation," published in 1981. His other professional works include "Nashville Metro," "The Ethic Factor in American Politics," "Politics in the Metropolis," "Politics and Urban Policies" and "The Politics of Raising State and Local Revenue."
In recognition of his commitment to educational excellence, Dr. Hawkins continues to be featured in a wide variety of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the Midwest, and Who's Who in the World. His accomplishments include being honored as the valedictorian of his high school class, being a 1st team all-conference football player and receiving an examination-based New York state scholarship upon graduating from high school. He is an active member of Phi Beta Kappa and Iota of New York.
