PALM BAY, FL November 22, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Brevard Sheriff Jack Parker is Proactive on Preventing Juvenile Crime

Brevard County Sheriff Jack Parker has teamed up with ex-con Larry Lawton and the Reality Check program to help deter teen crime. The Reality Check Program DVD will be used by the Brevard Sheriff Department as a tool for positive community policing. The DVD will be distributed by the Sheriff's Department to families with teenage kids.

Larry Lawton, President and Founder of the Reality Check Program presented the 500 Reality Check DVD's to Sheriff Parker on Thursday, November 19 at the Sheriff's Headquarters in Titusville. "The sheriff's office is spending $4,500.00 to buy the DVD's" said Lt. J.J. Woolsey. The money used to buy the DVDs comes from forfeited funds, Woolsey said.

Lawton's Reality Check DVD is a one of a kind product that shows teens and young adults the consequences bad choices. After 11 years in federal prison, Lawrence Lawton now helps kids and young adults with his Reality Check Program. The DVD topics include decision making, what prison is REALLY like, what you will lose, and avoiding and dissolving bad associations. 67 minutes in length, the film is appropriate for ages 11 and up.

Lawrence Lawton, Reality Check Founder stated, "The savings and "good will" generated by distributing the Reality Check DVD are priceless to a community. When the Sheriff's Department, city or any organization for that matter purchases bulk DVD's they can get them printed with their logo saying "compliments of" - what a powerful tool. A small investment by a Sheriff, police department, city, etc. will return an untold amount on fewer arrests; cops can be out patrolling the streets for serious stuff, preventing REAL crimes and having a positive presence. What about now solving a serious crime like a murder or rape when you have the community willing to help instead of hinder. The cops will not be looked at as an enemy, but as a helper. Lawton is extremely excited about the program and the innovation shown by Sheriff Jack Parker in adopting this program.
