/24-7PressRelease/ -- The Wesley Enhanced Living (WEL) at Chestnut Hill Manor retirement community hosted two certified pet therapy dogs named Lady and Pacer to entertain and engage the community's residents as part of a monthly program on August 10. The dogs performed a number of tricks including jumping rope, playing piano, 'singing,' 'reading' and performing a balloon toss and an interactive ring toss.
Lady, an eight-year-old Border Collie, and Pacer, a four-year-old Cocker Spaniel, are registered with the Mountain Therapy Dogs chapter of Therapy Dogs International. They have also passed the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen test.
Interaction with animals is known to have a therapeutic effect on people and can relieve stress, lower blood pressure, raise spirits and bring out self confidence in individuals. For years, therapy dogs have been used in schools, hospitals and retirement communities to provide comfort and affection as well as entertainment and simple enjoyment. WEL at Chestnut Hill Manor will continue to host the dogs for therapy sessions each month.
