Brooklyn Kindergarten Society's 94th Annual Yuletide Ball On Track to Break Fundraising Record

Yuletide raises vital funds for the Brooklyn Kindergarten Society, a nationally-recognized provider of early childhood education to low-income children in New York City.

BROOKLYN, NY, December 13, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The 94th annual Yuletide Ball is poised to break all previous fundraising records on Saturday, December 13th at 10 p.m. at the Heights Casino. Yuletide raises vital funds for the Brooklyn Kindergarten Society, a nationally-recognized provider of early childhood education to low-income children in New York City.

Last year's Yuletide Ball sold more than 900 tickets and raised an unprecedented $300,000 for BKS.

Since 1891, the Brooklyn Kindergarten Society has been a pioneer in high quality education for preschoolers in Brooklyn's poorest neighborhoods. BKS's five child care centers provide year-round educational programming and social services to 350 children ages two to five in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Crown Heights and Brownsville. While two-thirds of the children who enter BKS programs suffer developmental and language delays, 90% graduate from BKS's preschools at or above national averages. On November 12th, BKS was named one of the Robin Hood Foundation's 2014 Heroes for "improving the lives of countless neighbors in very powerful and tangible ways."

From its origins as a debutante ball for well-to-do Brooklyn Heights families, Yuletide has evolved into a one-of-a-kind black-tie event that maximizes its fundraising potential for BKS. Over 50 volunteers host dinner parties in their homes before escorting guests to the Heights Casino for drinks, dessert, and dancing. This unique format greatly defrays the costs of the Ball and allows almost all ticket sales to be passed on directly to supporting BKS's mission to give every child in Brooklyn the best possible start in school and in life.

About the Brooklyn Kindergarten Society: Since 1891, Brooklyn Kindergarten Society has been dedicated to providing high-quality early childhood education to low-income children in New York City. The lives of tens of thousands of children in neighborhoods throughout Brooklyn have been changed for the better because of the tireless support and dedication of countless volunteers and staff. The BKS program has a profound and tangible effect on the at-risk children it serves. While two-thirds of children entering BKS centers exhibit significant signs of developmental and language delays, more than 90% complete the BKS program on a par with or better than their peers from families with higher incomes. These are the children who will go on to success in school and in life.
