/24-7PressRelease/ -- Six competitive runners, who connected via the micro-blogging platform Twitter, announced today that @brooksrunning (http://twitter.com/brooksrunning) will dress the team head to toe in performance running gear. @brooksrunning, the Twitter presence of leading running company Brooks Sports, Inc. (www.brooksrunning.com), will supply its technical running footwear, apparel, and accessories for the team members, who will meet at the start line of the 24-hour, 180-mile Ragnar New England relay race from New Haven, Conn., to Boston on September 11-12, 2009.
The team uses Twitter to connect with other local runners and share their passion for endurance sports along with training tips and stories from the road. The six athletes, who come from diverse backgrounds and train individually, will unite for the first time in person on race day.
The Team, named "@brooksrunning's 5 guys, 1 girl, 140 characters" for the length of messages allowed on Twitter. Their captain, Justin Manganaro, is an emergency room nurse, marathoner, and running coach from Taunton, Mass.
We've known the team through their Twitter personas for some time and I know the type of running they do," said Manganaro. "They are the real thing. I'm excited to run with them, and especially excited to meet them in person!"

The Ragnar Relay New England is a 180-mile relay race from New Haven, CT, to Boston, MA, with teams of runners racing through the night for 24 hours. The majority of the competing teams have 12 members but the @brooksrunning Twitter Team will be running the whole route with just six members as an "ultra" team. Each member will run three legs for a total of between 25 and 38 miles per person.
