Buckeye Shapeform Creates Custom Demo Catheterization System for Medical Manufacturer

New partnership eliminated costly and time-consuming logistics.

"Based on this first project, Buckeye Shapeform has helped us decrease the overall product size, increase the precision and made the product easier to use."

COLUMBUS, OH, November 07, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Committed to providing quality products to original equipment manufacturers for more than 100 years, Buckeye Shapeform delivers a customized, finished demo product for a medical manufacturer's sales team to take to clinicians.

PercuVision, a developer of visually-guided catheterization systems, patented the DirectVision System, the latest cart-based, visually-guided catheterization system on the market. To sell this innovative medical device, PercuVision needed to equip its sales team with a lighter, durable and more portable model to use for client demonstrations and to receive feedback for future portable DirectVision systems. A standard enclosure wouldn't sufficiently meet PercuVision's unique requirements. The enclosure had to mount a small monitor and needed to house the camera control unit (CCU), cords and power bricks while leaving the faceplate accessible. PercuVision wanted the system to be easily serviceable and have a professional finished appearance.

"An off-the-shelf enclosure would not work for us," said PercuVision's Vice President of Research and Development Chris O'Keefe. "The front panel needed to be very precise because the CCU faceplate must be accessed in order to turn on the system, plug in the camera hand piece and adjust the picture quality. Custom holes were also needed to mount the CCU to the tray and the monitor to the enclosure."

PercuVision chose to use the XPAND-A custom aluminum enclosure from Buckeye Shapeform because it could be easily customized to fit DirectVision's exact dimensions needed for internal components.

Buckeye Shapeform engineers worked with PercuVision's designers to refine drawings and make suggestions based on the product's requirements and specifications set out by PercuVision. From there, they worked to produce a high-quality, finished product in-house.

Buckeye Shapeform easily customized its XPAND-A enclosure to specifically fit DirectVision's CCU and power brick dimensions. To increase its serviceability, Buckeye Shapeform mounted system components on an internal tray. Once the back panel is removed with a screw driver, the internal tray can be easily removed and the parts can be serviced. Custom holes were also punched to allow for monitor mounting, and p-clamps were installed for cord control. Buckeye Shapeform had the enclosure and its parts powder coated by one of its premier vendors and delivered the finished product to PercuVision, taking care of all the logistics.

"We came to Buckeye Shapeform based on recommendations and their reputation," said O'Keefe. "We were very impressed with Buckeye Shapeform's attention to detail and their ability to take care of all of the logistics. They upheld their reputation throughout the entire process."

In the end, Buckeye Shapeform delivered a customized, finished demo product for PercuVision's sales team to take to clinicians.

"Based on this first project, Buckeye Shapeform has helped us decrease the overall product size, increase the precision and made the product easier to use," said O'Keefe.

By taking responsibility of the production in-house, Buckeye Shapeform was able to provide a turnkey solution that eliminated costly and time-consuming logistics for PercuVision. Buckeye Shapeform and PercuVision's new partnership produced a finished product that will improve the standard of patient care, enable more first-pass catheterizations and reduce morbidities. Ultimately, it will help urologists provide superlative patient care and results.
