/24-7PressRelease/ -- He recently spoke with _a href=http://thecelebritycafe.com/interviews/buster_douglas_2009_07.html_TheCelebrityCafe_/a_ about beating boxing champ Mike Tyson and learning to cope with being a diabetic.
On the subject of prevailing as the underdog in the memorable boxing match nearly 20 years ago Buster said, "It's an awesome accomplishment. I really feel good about it because I put a lot of work into being a contender and working my way to the title shot and once succeeding, it was a great feeling of achievement."
Buster also talked about a longer battle and eventual accomplishment he felt throughout his fight with diabetes. After being in a coma, Buster realized that he was given a second chance at life. He intended to take this chance to turn his life around.
After losing his championship title, Buster remembers the depression he felt. He notes, "Then going into that diabetic coma and coming out of it and then realizing I had to deal with the diabetes—that really was an eye-opener because I definitely hit a wall. I feel blessed to be able to come back and do things now, continue to enjoy my life, and my family, and do the things that I'm doing."
Buster began to focus on his health much more after this point, which spawned the idea for his cookbook. He had a hard time with the type of food he had to eat now to stay healthy and figured others like him went through this too.
Buster explains, "I was just helping people deal with diabetes because my personal experience with it was that a lot of the foods I was being turned on to weren't as tasty as regular foods because of the sugars. It's just something that we've created that has inspired better tasting meals. It makes it easier to deal with it".
