Doyle Brunson arrives at the English Poker Open
CHELMSFORD, ENGLAND, September 24, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The English Poker Open, new to the poker circuit, took place from September 15th to 17th. It was held in the UK's biggest card room Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham, the home of Robin Hood. So the question was "Who stole from the rich to become the first English Poker Open champion?". Brit David La Ronde came home with GBP208,367!

The main event attracted 213 entrants and with many pros including Doyle Brunson, Phil Hellmuth, Annette Obrestad, Liv Boeree and recent 2nd place European Poker Tour winner Marc Goodwin. Players could either buy their seats directly (buy-in $5300) or qualify via satellites at several different online poker rooms.

The Open's three events provided on-going entertainment, large public audiences and culminated in a dramatic final table and heads-up display in the main event. And with so many pros present, a GBP5/GBP10 No Limit Hold'Em cash game emerged, with GBP50,000 on the table at one point - something very rarely seen at Dusk Till Dawn - or outside of London.
The tournament delivered some notable hands that became legendary to the event. With a 3-way all-in (pocket Aces against pocket Kings against AK), the one out-King on the river created shockwaves.
Karim Wilkins, CEO of RakeTheRake, who sponsored the tournament, commented "The high standard of play from the field and superb atmosphere throughout have cemented the English Poker Open's place on the circuit."
For those who couldn't make the event and missed the live webcast you can watch the video blogs for interviews with the pros and the round up of each day's action: http://www.englishpokeropen.com/news.html
