/24-7PressRelease/ - KANSAS CITY, MO, May 11, 2007 - The United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) presented a silver award in Category II: Best Practices in Distance Learning Programming to California Lutheran University. Since 1987, USDLA has been the nation's premier distance learning association. The USDLA Awards Program honors outstanding individuals and organizations in the field of distance learning education and training.

California Lutheran University's innovative and accredited program in Financial Planning is an online MBA and certificate program entirely geared toward financial planning and services professionals. It is designed to help mid-level professionals keep pace with growing market demand and stay ahead in this increasingly complex career field. In addition, this program prepares students to sit for the prestigious CFP Certification Exam.

Dr. Somnath Basu, Director the Online MBA and Certificate Program in Financial Planning provided the guidance and vision for these programs. Under Dr. Basu's supervision, each course in the programs integrates three (3) learning managements systems (IntraLearn, Adobe Connect and Wimba Live Classroom) to deliver content and materials via an asynchronous system coupled with voice over IP technology. Tutorials are delivered via Adobe Connect presentation software and the Live Classroom enables the faculty member to meet with one student or all the students for consultation or class presentations.

Commenting on this award, Dr. Basu stated, "I want to thank everyone here at CLU who has worked so hard to develop our financial planning program. I also want to thank the Learning House, Inc., our partner in distance learning, for their continuing efforts in helping us create and maintain our online campus.

With its rigorous MBA-Financial Planning curriculum, this award winning program is registered by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. (CFP Board) in Denver, Colorado. Candidates who plan to sit for the CFP Certification Examination must successfully complete a CFP Board-Registered Program. CLU's program is the only CFP board-registered program that offers an online MBA in Financial Planning geared completely towards financial services professionals.

California Lutheran University and Learning House began working together to build an online campus in October 2004 and launched their first courses in 2005. Since then, this program has set the standard for high quality distance learning program in financial planning.
