California University Student Union Wins Intranet Design Award

    NORTH VANCOUVER, BC, September 14, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The University Student Union, an auxiliary organization of California State University, Northridge won an intranet design contest hosted by the corporate Facebook page for Intranet Connections Social Intranet Software. The winning design was determined by members giving a "like" to their favorite intranet screen snap. Five finalists were selected for the Facebook contest, but USU's intranet design won the top award and received an iPad 2, after logging 182 votes.

The USU intranet theme uses their vibrant school color, Matador Red, throughout the site. Their intranet promotes collaboration by giving students the ability to set up blogs and create collaborative spaces to discuss current projects. Their site has proven to be an excellent resource for the university; students and staff use the intranet on a daily basis to update their in/out board, laptop checkouts are made through a calendar application, and office supply requests, online business forms and work order requests are accessible only on the intranet.

The site designer, Brent Nelson accepted the ipad2 and spoke about what makes his intranet unique, "Student employees make up about 75% of the USU work force, so we try to make the intranet a dynamic resource that deals with the many facets of college life." The intranet has been a huge time saver for the educational institution because of its ease of use and ability to centralize where people access important information.

USU's intranet is powered Intranet Connections Social Intranet Software. Their intranet is used for marketing, employee recruitment and program announcements. Brent and his team are working to define and develop content standards to make the site ADA compliant.
