Calling All Young Inventors! University Games Launches Annual National Young Game Inventors Contest

Children Ages 5 to 12 Years are Encouraged to Submit Board Game Designs for a Chance to Win Exciting Prizes
    SAN FRANCISCO, CA, June 26, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Leading board game manufacturer, University Games invites young game inventors with an original board game idea to participate in its 22nd annual National Young Game Inventors Contest #NYGIC for the chance to win exciting prizes, including the opportunity to have their game manufactured and included in the University Games 2015 lineup. Additional prizes include a family vacation to San Francisco, CA, (includes four nights lodging and airfare for up to two adults and one child, valued over $6,000), a $10,000 savings bond for college and a complete library of today's hottest board games from University Games. The contest, open to children between the ages of 5 and 12, is sponsored in part by the world's leading dedicated toy and baby products retailer, Toys"R"Us and leading publishing partner Scholastic Parent & Child magazine. Since the National Young Game Inventors Contest #NYGIC was launched in 1993, the contest has encouraged thousands of young children to stretch their imaginations and develop some of the company's most popular and award-winning board games to date, including Munch Math , Rapunzel's Revenge , Rhyme Time , The Great Jungle Adventure , Twisted Tales and Take a Hike! . This August, University Games will launch 7-year-old game inventor Franklin Wright's 2013 winning game, Conveyor Belt, at Toys"R"Us, among other leading retailers.

How to Enter: The first step is to develop a unique board game. Board games can focus on any subject matter, however entries are limited to board games; card games and toys will not be accepted. Submissions should include what the board and corresponding game pieces will look like, rules and how to play, as well as a prototype of the game. Note that entries will not be judged on artwork.

Entry Phase: From now to October 15, 2014, parents of children between the ages of 5-12 can submit their child's unique board game design complete with all of its pieces, rules and board. Simply download and complete the entry form ( and send the game to University Games (2030 Harrison St., San Francisco, CA 94110) c/o National Young Game Inventors Contest.

Judging Phase: All game submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges, consisting of toy industry opinion leaders and representatives from University Games. The top four finalists will be selected and notified on or around November 1, 2014.

Winner Phase: One grand prize-winner will receive a $10,000 savings bond for college and a family vacation to San Francisco (includes four nights lodging and airfare for up to two adults and one child), as well as the opportunity to have their game manufactured by University Games and included in the 2015 product line. Additionally, the grand-prize winner along with four finalists will also receive a complete game library from University Games.
