FORT WORTH, TX, January 28, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Calloway's Nursery, in conjunction with Greenleaf Nursery, announced the winner of the O2 Planting for the Future Tree Story Contest on Dec. 1, 2009.

The Tree Story Contest was part of Calloway's and Cornelius Nursery's efforts to increase awareness about the horticulture industry and encourage planting. Participants were asked to submit a photo and a 75-word narrative about their favorite tree. Then, members of the gardening community website, mytexasgarden.com could vote for their favorite story. More than 40 people or organizations entered the contest including Girl Scout troops, retirees, and more. Nearly 8,000 votes were cast during the contest period of March 1 to Nov. 30.

The winner, Kaye Moore of Duncanville, Texas (Tree Story #20), received the most votes and received the $1,000 American Express gift card prize. Kaye's story focused on her 39-year old daughter who passed away in February and her desire to plant a tree in her daughter's memory. Her story garnered more than 1,500 votes on mytexasgarden.com.

"At Calloway's and Cornelius Nursery, we focus on making gardening easy and fun for all. This contest emphasized the importance and meaning of trees. We are exceptionally proud of the participation in our latest contest," Kimberly Bird, Vice President of Retail Marketing, remarked.
