Canada's Minister of Health to Attend Fundraising Gala in Honour of Sir Frederick Banting, co-discoverer of Insulin
Wednesday, July 2nd marks the date of a major Fundraising Dinner Gala at the Nottawasaga Convention Centre in Alliston, Ontario to honour Canadian medical pioneer Sir Frederick Banting and to raise funds to restore his former birthplace and homestead

    /24-7PressRelease/ - NEW TECUMSETH, ON, June 26, 2008 - Canada's Minister of Health set to attend as honoured guest of the town's Restore the Banting Homestead Hot Summer's Night Gala on July 2nd.

The Honourable Minister Tony Clement will Hon. Helena Guergis, P.C.
M.P. Simcoe-Grey and MPP Jim Wilson along with other local dignitaries and members of the public on Wednesday, July 2nd for the gala. It will be held at the Nottawasaga Convention Centre just outside of Alliston, Ontario.

The fundraising gala is in honour of the town's new purchase of the 100-acre Frederick Banting Homestead from the Ontario Historical Society Foundation. The homestead remains in a state of disrepair and in desperate need of upgrading and restoration. A grassroots community fundraising initiative has been underway to raise the half million dollars needed to repair and maintain the homestead.

The gala will be hosted by A-Channel's six o'clock news anchor Lance Chilton and will feature live entertainment by the Peter Banting Swingtet. A silent auction will be featured that evening with numerous prizes donated by local businesses and members of the public, including some items from the Banting estate. A live auction will be auctioneered by Deputy Mayor Rick Milne and will include a signed Casson print and the original signature of Sir Frederick Banting as well as other exciting items.

Tickets are selling quickly and are available for purchase for 125 dollars per person to any member of the public. Purchases can be made at the Town Administrative Centre on Wellington Street in Alliston or at the town's Joint Operations Centre in Beeton. You can also call the town's office to enquire about corporate table purchases.

Diabetes continues to explode worldwide at epidemic proportions. As of last fall, there were 2 million Canadians with diabetes. There are 250 million diabetics worldwide.
