REGINA, SK, CANADA, April 17, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Canadian Short Screenplay Competition, the most prestigious name in short film script contests, has earned two more honours: a world premiere at the notable Yorkton Film Festival as well as a nomination in the exclusive Ruth Shaw Golden Sheaf Award Category for Best of Saskatchewan.

Minus Lara, a short film script penned by Toronto screenwriter Surita Parmar, was first entered in to the Canadian Short Screenplay Competition in 2009, where it eventually placed second.

CSSC founder and producer David Cormican (Rusted Pyre, Seeing In The Dark), attached director Rob King (George Ryga's Hungry Hills) to helm the Bravo!FACT funded musical dance piece, which was shot in Regina, SK using the Saskatchewan Legislature and Classic Antiques as locations.

The short film's star Romina D'Ugo (Funkytown, So You Think You Can Dance Canada), plays Lara, who, while browsing an antique shop, is seemingly transported back to a Russian Revolution'eque era to escape real life and experience a magestic dance, pageantry and romance.

"This is wonderful news", offered D'Ugo when asked about the film's nomination in the Festival's exclusive Best of Saskatchewan category. "I couldn't be happier about it".

This is the first screening for David Cormican and the Canadian Short Screenplay Competition at the Yorkton Film Festival and the first nomination for the Ruth Shaw Award for Cormican.
