Canadians Urged to Relax Immigration Law while Combating Illegal Residence
Canada's immigration policies are extremely strict; however with a massive shortage in the labour force backlogs in tackling immigration applications, many people are calling for changes to Canadian immigration law.

/24-7PressRelease/ - May 11, 2008 - There are now proposed amendments to immigration laws, giving the minister power to fast track those with preferred skills, but some believe that just letting more immigrants in is the ultimate solution to backlogs and gaps in the job market.

"Canada is one of the best places to migrate to, but still one of the most difficult, however if you are highly skilled the challenge is cut in half," says Colin Romberger of http://www.globalvisas.ca. "But new amendments are sure to cause massive positive changes to occur," he adds.

On Wednesday, Victor Wong of the Chinese Canadian National Council told the Common's finance committee that as many as 333 000 immigrants should be accepted a year in Canada, as apposed to the current target of about 265 000.

These proposed amendments come with the fact that it can take as long as ten years for people to migrate to Canada. Within this time, skilled professionals such as doctors, engineers and accountants that are in demand are often snapped up by other growing countries such as Australia where the wait is much shorter. Therefore there have been numerous calls for the Canadian immigration doorway to be opened fully.

It does however seem ironic that on the one hand legal entry into Canada is a long, bureaucratic process, as apposed to the poor system in place to deal with the deportation of illegal immigrants. Of late as many as 41 000 illegal immigrants deported from Canadian shores have been misplaced and therefore there are a growing number of people living in Canada illegally.

It is not known if these illegal immigrants, most of them rejected refugees, have left Canada or have been ordered to leave but have just remained in the country. This is attributed to a failed monitoring system and overflowing holding centres for detainees awaiting deportation.

It is therefore in fact easier to sneak into Canada and remain their without removal than entering legally as a skilled person wanting to benefit and contribute to Canadian society.

The current system is however better than it used to be, where previously there was no database tracking people who received removal orders existed at all. Now at least the numbers of illusive deportees can be counted.

"Despite these problems Canada remains a popular destination", says Romberger. He adds that "applying for a Canadian visa offers exciting opportunities to live and work in Canada, one of the worlds most dynamic and rewarding countries."
