/Cambridge Who's Who/ -- Sumner L. Wyall, Captain for Southwest Airlines Co., has been recognized by
Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of aviation.
With 35 years of professional experience as an airplane pilot, Captain Wyall is an aviation expert. On a daily basis, he is responsible for overseeing the safety of transporting hundreds of passengers to their destinations. The challenges include weather, mechanical and ATC delays. Early on in his aviation career, he flew for several corporations including United Technologies. He has been with Southwest Airlines for 26 years. His mother was a huge influence in his career choice. She was a WASP (Women's Air Force Service Pilot), during World Was II. Captain Wyall currently lives on a 63-foot Hatteras Motor Yacht, spending his summers in Baltimore's Inner Harbor and his winters in Cocoa, Florida.
Captain Wyall was the recipient of the Aviation Excellence Award from the Southwest Airlines Pilots' Association as a result of an incident in Austin, Texas on January 22, 1999. Captain Wyall also took part in an experiment at NASA to see how a new drug treated airsickness in outer space. He prides himself on building a tree house equipped with A/C, cable TV, bunk beds and a microwave and fridge. The tree house was featured in the San Antonio Express-News. In 2004, he was in a 30-second nationally televised commercial for Southwest Airlines.
Captain Wyall attended Indiana University and is a member of the Southwest Airlines Pilots' Association. He aspires to grow professionally and plans to work with Habitat for Humanity.
