Career Step Named to AHIMA Foundation's Global Health Workforce Industry Council

Career Step to provide educational expertise for advisory council as it develops international standards for healthcare curriculum.

LEHI, UT, May 18, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Career Step, an online provider of career-focused education and corporate training, is proud to announce its participation in the Global Health Workforce Industry Council (GHWIC), a first-of-its-kind leadership body focusing on all facets of the health information profession. Career Step will provide expertise and guidance with the educational aspect of the global workforce initiative.

Led by the AHIMA Foundation, the charitable affiliate of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), in conjunction with the International Federation for Health Information Management Associations (IFHIMA), the GHWIC will support the Foundation's current efforts to develop flexible, consistent international health information curricula guidelines. The goal of this initiative is to provide a standard for governments, higher education leaders, and employers in any country.

"The international expertise of this board is impressive, and we are excited to be a part of it," said Mike Hodgson, Career Step Executive Vice President of Healthcare Products and Partnerships. "We look forward to sharing our insights about healthcare education and being a part of the effort to both develop and promote superior health information standards internationally."

William Rudman, RHIA, PhD, Executive Director of the AHIMA Foundation and Vice President of Education Visioning for AHIMA, said that the GHWIC aims to bridge the growing gap between classroom training and the real-world skills needed for a successful, career-ready workforce. Rudman also said that aligning health information management and technology with business and organizational strategy will drive innovation, entrepreneurship, business growth, investment opportunities, and economic development.

By pulling together a broad cross-section of key healthcare industry partners, the council will be able to look at the needs of the industry--including professionalism, certification, competencies, technology, social constructs and values, and legislation and regulatory factors--in a way that will help inform current or proposed academic standards, programs, and policies globally.

Additional members of the GHWIC include 3M, Dell, MedPartners, MiraMed Global Services, and TrustHCS.

"We are thrilled that the GHWIC members are key influencers with accomplishments, experience and leadership in the fields of healthcare, education, governments and associations with health information, technology, and informatics expertise," Rudman said.
